Electric heater (convector) Electrolux ECH / AG - 500 EF

The prevalence of electric heaters

convector electrolux

Due to the fact that gas is not supplied everywhere, and liquid-fired boilers have not been able to gain universal popularity, electric convectors are being purchased today more and more often. This applies not only to private houses, but also to apartments where central heating does not cope with the tasks assigned to it. The installation of an autonomous system is not always permitted by law, so many families are saved by purchasing electric heaters, which allow creating a comfortable microclimate inside the home. When shopping, consumers face difficulties in choosing the best device. Experts advise choosing electric convectors that are unpretentious in operation, efficiency, practicality and safety.

Convectors Electrolux

Device elements
Electric convectors Electrolux with a built-in thermostat are an excellent choice for an apartment or house. The products of this manufacturer are distinguished by their reliability, durability and safety of use. The range of products is diverse, and it is possible to select the optimal heater depending on the specific operating conditions. An interesting feature of the Electrolux models is the presence of a built-in air purification system.

Electric convectors do not burn oxygen and do not emit unpleasant odors during operation. The presence of a cleaning system improves the characteristics of the air in the room. Electrolux convectors are capable of operating in different modes. In addition, they provide the ability to adjust the power, set the optimal temperature, and program the time to turn on / off the device.

Why choose an electric convector

convector electrolux reviews

If you decide to purchase the equipment described in the article, then you can pay attention to the Electrolux convector. Such devices distribute hot air throughout the entire volume of the room quietly and evenly. You may prefer a model that is equipped with a fan to speed up the heating process. However, in this case, you can not count on noiselessness. It should be noted that the surface of the device is completely safe, it does not heat up above 60 degrees and cannot cause burns. This factor plays an important role in the popularity of modern convectors. The "Electrolux" convector differs from oil installations in that it is not at all traumatic, which is why you can use this equipment even in a house where there are children and animals.

Advantages and disadvantages of convector heaters

We are talking about a common type of convectors - electric heaters. If we analyze how the convector differs from the oil-filled heater, the main advantage is the rapid rise in the room temperature. In the oil cooler, the coolant is first heated, the body of the device, after which the air begins to warm up. The convector heating element heats the air.

Since the convector casing does not reach high temperatures, the devices are much safer to use. The risk of burns on the hot housing is minimized. This feature is important in cases where the house is inhabited by small children and pets. The lowered body temperature gives the convector one advantage - when overturning, the floor coverings will not deteriorate or ignite.True, for most models of household electric heaters, one stage of protection provides for the shutdown of the heating element when it rolls over.

The basic principle of operation of a convector heater determines the main disadvantage - uneven heating of air in height. The air temperature difference near the floor, at the height of human growth, is 4 - 9 degrees Celsius. The indicator is determined by the location of the part of the device, provided with gaps for the heated air outlet. With a "classic" arrangement on the upper end of the heater, the temperature difference will be higher. The gaps are located frontally - warm air is distributed more evenly.

One problem with convector heaters is dust entrained in the circulating air currents. It is clear that the constant inhalation of dusty air is not very good for your health. Going down, the dust settles on the heating element, eventually leading to the appearance of an unpleasant odor when heating the heating element, reducing the efficiency of the device. When choosing a convector heater, you should give preference to modern models, the front part contains the air outlet holes.

Reviews of the Electrolux brand convector with different heating elements

electric convector electrolux

On sale you can find the described device, in which heating elements of one of three types are installed, among them: monolithic, tubular, needle-shaped. As for the second type of element, it is equipped with aluminum fins. Needle heating elements are a rather thin dielectric plate, on which a chromium-nickel heating thread is installed, it is coated with an insulating varnish during the manufacturing process. Consumers claim that appliances with this addition cool and heat up almost instantly. Convection inside the equipment, which is created on the basis of a needle heater, is performed due to the design of the case. If you decide to purchase an Electrolux convector with such a device, then, as experienced consumers emphasize, it will not be possible to use it inside wet rooms, this is due to the fact that the varnished surface is almost in no way protected from moisture.

Professional advice

convectors electrolux with electronic thermostat

Such units are so popular today for the reason that they have a low cost, but the durability of the equipment, which is often heard from a modern buyer, is in doubt. In practice, needle heaters in electric convectors are rarely used, however, if you still find such a unit on sale, then it is best to refrain from buying.

Reviews of convectors with a tubular heating element

wall convectors electrolux

If you consider the Electrolux convector as a heating device for your home, then it may be based on a tubular heating element. It is a steel tube in which a nichrome thread is installed. The tube is filled with a heat-conducting backfill in the form of an insulator. The tube has aluminum fins that provide efficient heat dissipation, enhancing convection. According to users, the tubular element heats up less than the needle element, but is more durable. Quite often, models of units with heating elements are made in a splash-proof design, which is why they can be used even in bathrooms, which is very popular with modern consumers. If you are not afraid that during operation, the difference in thermal expansion of the ribs and the tube can cause sounds that resemble crackling, then you can safely choose such equipment for your home.

Specifications

The body of the equipment has an aerodynamic shape, which provides an effective trajectory of air convection. The design of the housing improves the technical parameters of the device.The unit has a built-in convenient electronic unit with LED display. Thanks to him, the device is controlled. The panel shows the temperature parameters, the selected power mode, timer.

Temperature parameters

Electric convectors from the Electrolux company have a built-in highly sensitive thermostat that allows you to set the optimal mode in the room with high accuracy, program the on / off time of the device. Electric convectors operate at half and full power. To reduce the load on the power grid, an economical mode is used, which also saves electricity.

Consumer reviews about convectors with a monolithic heater

convectors heating electrolux

Convector "Electrolux", reviews of which are often only positive, may have a monolithic heating element. According to experts, it is the most acceptable option, as it is silent. Due to the fact that the body of the heater is one-piece, and the ribs are an integral part of it, the equipment does not create additional sounds during use. Such devices are most popular due to the fact that they work with the least heat loss, and are also highly efficient. Professionals advise to stop your choice on models in which a tubular or monolithic version of the heating element is installed. The latter is the ideal solution.

Instructions for use

Convector Electrolux instruction

If you have purchased an Electrolux electric convector, then you should think about where it will be located. The device can be mounted on a wall, and you will need to use special mounts that come with the equipment. Quite often, consumers choose mobile models that can be moved from room to room. If you are more interested in the second option, then you need to pay attention to whether there are wheels in the delivery set, which will exclude the need to search for this accessories in the city's shops. If you are considering at the point of sale convectors "Electrolux" with an electronic thermostat, then it is important to pay attention also to the overall dimensions of the device. This will allow you to fit the equipment most harmoniously into any interior. The most elegant models, which are skirting boards, can have a height of up to 15 centimeters.

Another household heater that came to us for testing belongs to the convector type. Electrolux ECH / R-2000 E is a rather large device that looks like a turned off TV, can be easily mounted on a wall or take any convenient place - on the floor or on any other horizontal surface. The declared power of 2 kW, according to the developers, should be enough to heat a living room with an area of 10 to 25 square meters. Let's check how well the device will cope with such a task.

Equipment

The heater is supplied in a solid dark blue parallelepiped cardboard box. Above the blue "fill" are the images of the heater itself and the racing car, apparently hinting at the high speed of the device. If we consider that the heater itself is black, and the photo of the car does not differ in bright colors, then this design looks very mediocre. The black rectangle of the radiator on a dark blue background - what was the designer thinking?

Some of the key features noted on the box are the photo of the “high-efficiency heating element”, the presence of a separate control unit with LED display, and air-flow louvers with the patented Fine Screen design. The recommended heating area, as the inscription on the box tells us, is from 10 to 25 square meters (with a ceiling height of up to 3 meters).

The box is equipped with a plastic handle for easy portability. In this case, this is a really necessary thing: the box is quite large, and it will probably be inconvenient to carry it without a handle. The contents of the box are protected from impacts with foam inserts and plastic bags.

Opening the box, inside we found:

  • the heater itself;
  • prefabricated legs with wheels;
  • wall mounting kit;
  • instructions.

At first sight

Visually, the device makes an extremely positive impression (of course, if you are not confused by the all-metal case, which creates strong associations with industrial design).

When assembled, the heater (at least the black version we have at our disposal) most resembles a TV on wheels. It turned out to be quite difficult to get rid of this impression, and we suggest that potential buyers think in advance whether they are ready to see a black rectangle in the room (it is no secret that many for this very reason “disguise” the TV, hiding it in special cabinets or niches).

In front of the heater there is a ventilation grill, on top there is a control panel with an LED display, which is covered with darkened transparent plastic.

On the back is the power cord and wall mount, much like the conventional VESA mount used for mounting TVs and monitors. The heater has no special compartment for the cord.

Instructions

The heater manual is a small brochure printed on glossy black and white paper. After studying the instructions, the user will be fully prepared to work with the device: here you can find such sections as “device control unit”, “preparation for work”, “temperature setting”, “timer setting”, etc.

In general, the instruction is useful, and it will obviously not be superfluous to get acquainted with it.

Control

The device is controlled by five mechanical buttons and a blue backlit LED display.

Already after the first activation, the purpose of the darkened "cover" that covers the control panel becomes clear: the display backlight seems too bright even in daylight. Well, since the heater is often used at night in the bedroom, such a bright backlight may not be appropriate. The plastic cover, therefore, partially alleviates the problem, but does not completely remove it: the display will still glow, albeit not so brightly. This solution does not look very reliable: the lid gives the impression of being fragile.

Since we are talking about using a heater in the bedroom, perhaps we should immediately mention one more feature: pressing the buttons is accompanied by a rather loud sound signal (squeak), and when operating in automatic mode, the heater emits clicks, turning on and off.In this case, the modes "without backlight" and "without sound" are not provided for the device.

The buttons on the control panel have the following functions:

  • on off.;
  • more less;
  • power selection (mode 1 or 2);
  • mode selection (Set).

Indicators on the display show the selected operating mode and the room temperature.

The heater can operate in several modes. First, the user is allowed to choose the power - full (2 kW) or half (1 kW). Secondly, it is allowed to set the air temperature, which the heater will maintain automatically (from 5 to 35 degrees). Third, the user can set the sleep timer from 0 to 24 hours in 1 hour increments.

Of the additional functions, it is worth noting the presence of the "anti-freeze" function (maintaining a certain minimum temperature), as well as the "parental control" mode - blocking the control buttons. This mode is activated by simultaneously pressing the "more" and "less" buttons for three seconds.

Using

Preparation

Before using the heater for the first time, you need to mount the legs or fix the unit to the wall using the supplied mount.

The installation of the legs is carried out in just a couple of minutes: first, using two screws, you need to fix two plastic supports (the screws supplied in the kit are tightened by hand, without using a screwdriver). Then - insert the wheels into the holes intended for them.

To fix the heater to the wall, you will have to work harder: remove the wall bracket from the convector, mark the places for the holes on the wall, then drill the holes and fix the bracket with the dowels and the screws supplied with them. The last step is to hang the heater on the bracket.

During the installation of the device, the minimum distances must be observed: at least 10 cm from the floor and wall, at least 1 meter from the ceiling. It is worth noting that at this point the developer contradicts himself: after installing the convector on wheels, the distance to the floor will be 5-6 cm, which is almost half the recommended ten.

Care

The convector does not require any special maintenance. The body of the device should be cleaned from time to time with a soft cloth without the use of abrasive cleaning agents or solvents. Cleaning the space behind a wall-mounted heater is also quite easy: just press the latches and remove the heater by pulling it towards you. After that, you can wash the wall on which it is installed.

Testing

In order to test the heater, we took an ordinary room in a city apartment with typical furniture: a wooden "wall", a table, chairs. Our test room was 15 square meters with a ceiling height of 3.2 meters. In order to cool the room, we opened the window for several hours. It is clear that it is almost impossible to achieve a uniform temperature with this method, so we used two thermometers for test measurements. We placed one of them next to the heater, the second - at the maximum distance, at the opposite wall (at the entrance to the room).

The heater was installed in the coldest part of the room (on the windowsill) and turned on at maximum power. Temperature measurements were taken every half hour.

The moment when the temperature at the open window turned out to be the lowest possible (taking into account the not very cold winter, we did not manage to reach zero) was taken as the reference point.

The heater has been turned on at maximum power (with the maximum setting of the selected temperature). The results were as follows:

The maximum power recorded by our watt-meter was 1740 watts. In low power mode, the device consumes 850 W, which is also slightly less than the stated readings.

As we can see, in the first half hour or hour, the temperature in the room increased quite significantly (we associate this with the fact that after we closed the window, the air began to heat up from the walls and furniture). Then the heating took place evenly - 1 degree for every half hour. At the same time, the air temperature in the room was maintained almost uniform (the difference in the opposite corners of the room was no more than 2 °), and the power of the device was approximately the same throughout the entire operation time.

The readings of the temperature sensor built into the heater, although they do not correspond to reality, (when corrected for overestimated readings) may well be used to maintain the desired temperature in the room. As you can see from the table, the sensor is wrong by 7-8 degrees, regardless of the set temperature. Thus, with the maximum set value of 35 degrees, the device will actually try to maintain the room temperature at 27 degrees. And this is more than enough for household needs.

We did not find any overturning disconnections in this model: the device continued to work regardless of its position relative to the floor. However, it turned out to be not so easy to overturn it: the convector stands confidently on its wheeled legs, and it will hardly be possible to accidentally drop it (although a child or a large dog will quite cope with this task).

conclusions

The heater of the convector type Electrolux ECH-R 2000E turned out to be a nice and friendly device to use. He behaved adequately during testing and successfully coped with both heating the air in the room and maintaining the selected temperature (albeit with a slight correction for the inaccuracy of the built-in thermometer).

The power of the convector turned out to be slightly lower than the declared one, but the heater uses its capabilities at 100% - it does not require "breaks" in operation and does not overheat. The design of the device is well thought out: the heater stands confidently on four "legs" -wheels, and can also be easily mounted on the wall. The expediency of such a decision is left to the discretion of the user.

Ideally, we would like to see with this device the ability to turn off the backlight and sound accompanying button presses: not everyone will like the extra light and squeak in the bedroom. We did not reveal any other shortcomings during testing.

pros

  • stable heating without pauses and stops
  • timer
  • temperature hold function

Reviews about the power of the "Electrolux" brand convector

Heating convectors "Electrolux" can have different power. The selection of this indicator can be made according to the following formula. It assumes the use of one kilowatt of power per 10 square meters of floor space. This is true if the ceiling height does not exceed 2.7 meters. If this figure is higher, then for every 10 centimeters of height it will be necessary to add 10% power. According to experienced users, it is important to take into account the fact that heating with a convector may not be the main one. In order to provide high-quality heating, you need as many convectors as there are windows in the room. If we are talking about a corner room or a room that is located above a cold basement, and also has a large glazing area, then you will need a sufficient supply of power, experts advise you to pay special attention to this.

Consumer reviews about the thermostat in the design of the convector

If you decide to purchase an Electrolux convector, the instructions for using which were presented above, it is important to take into account the fact that the thermostat, which is part of the described equipment, is responsible for maintaining the required temperature inside the building. By visiting the store, you can choose a model with an electronic or mechanical thermostat control.Those consumers who want to save money purchase devices with a mechanical thermostat, since it reduces the cost of construction. However, in this case, you should be prepared for some inconveniences, among them - the consumption of a large amount of energy, poor temperature control, as well as characteristic clicks when turning off and on. As experts advise, it is best to purchase wall-mounted convectors "Electrolux", which have electronic thermostats. They, of course, outperform mechanical ones.
