The pipe diameter is determined primarily by taking into account special calculations. For this, a special table is used to calculate the throughput of pipes. If the boiler is powerful, a large diameter pipe is required.

The boiler does not light up

If the boiler does not ignite and does not make any attempts to turn on (idle), when necessary, this may be an electronics malfunction, but such cases are rare and concern specific models of boilers.
Usually, if there is a malfunction that prevents the boiler from working properly, the user will receive an error. Several unsuccessful ignition attempts
This is the very first error code for most hardware manufacturers. For BAXI E01 boilers, for Arison 501 boilers, for Vaillant F28. Ignition of the gas-air mixture in the combustion chamber will occur under two conditions: the presence of gas at the burner nozzles and the presence of a spark. Gas enters the burner through the gas valve, the spark is generated by a transformer on the control board (or remote). A separate case should be noted the situation when ignition occurs, but the boiler cannot detect the presence of a flame and goes out (closes the gas supply valve).

Phasing error
... Often, gas boiler boards require that the polarity of the connection be observed. For the average user, this means that the position of the plug in the outlet matters. If the polarity of the connection is violated, the boiler does not see the presence of a flame, continues to ignite (crackle of the electrode) even when there is already a flame on the burner, then it turns off in an emergency. Even if you did not touch the plug, the polarity could change at the substation!
Ignition or flame ionization electrode
... It can be separate or combined. The main problems can be associated with contamination (oxidation) of the electrode or its gap relative to the torch. A dirty ionization electrode prevents the board from detecting the presence of a flame and the operation stops.
High voltage wire. The high voltage is generated by a transformer and is transmitted through a wire to the electrode, where it breaks down the air gap between the torch and the electrode with a spark. If a characteristic crackle is heard, but the spark on the burner is not visually visible, it is possible that the breakdown occurs somewhere else. For example, there is a microcrack in the insulation of a high-voltage wire, and a breakdown occurs at the point of insulation failure on the case.
Electrical connection problems
... The presence of parasitic potentials on the boiler body, lack of grounding or low supply voltage can cause problems with ignition. I often hear the argument: before, everything worked without grounding. No one will understand how the boiler worked without grounding. It must be followed according to the operating instructions! For normal operation of the boiler, there must be: the mains voltage is at least 180 volts, the potential between the neutral and earth wires is up to 10 Volts, the presence of grounding.
No gas on the burner
... The gas valve controls the gas supply to the burner: it opens and modulates (gas dosing). The gas valves are regulated and controlled by the control board. Accordingly, the cause of problems may be a malfunction of the valve (or the need for adjustment), its electrical part or the control circuit on the board. The inspection of this device must be entrusted to a specialist. The lack of gas can also be due to external factors: meter malfunction, dirty filters.

In some cases, the lack of ignition or flame control is caused by a malfunction of the boiler main board. This can be considered after the other possible causes, which are described above, have been verified.
Insufficient draft (the fan does not turn on)
Also a popular problem. If there is a problem with the removal of combustion products, the boiler will not start and will ignite until it is completely eliminated. Such malfunctions and their solutions are described in more detail in a separate article - chimney errors.
Insufficient water pressure (make-up required)
Traditional gas boilers operate in a closed heating system, respectively, so that the boiler does not turn into a hydrogen bomb, there must be a minimum water pressure inside the heat exchanger (in fact, the presence of water and circulation there). The pressure is controlled by a special sensor - a pressure sensor.An additional mechanical pressure gauge is provided for the user in the boilers. Although the systems are closed, the pressure in them can drop over time (for example, water leaves through leaks in the connections). As soon as the water pressure in the boiler falls below the minimum level (0.5 - 0.7 bar), the boiler sensor detects a malfunction and blocks operation. In most cases, you just need to study the readings of a mechanical pressure gauge and recharge the system according to the instructions for the boiler.
Moving on to cleaning the column
We turn off the gas supply valve to the boiler. Using the key No. 10, unscrew the fastening screw under the boiler door and remove the door.
Disconnect the wire connecting the piezoelectric element and the ignition electrode.
Unscrew the thermocouple clamp with the key # 10. Unscrew the thermocouple from the valve with the key No. 9.
Note:
it is necessary to ensure that the thermocouple does not rotate during unscrewing.
We mark the depth of entry of the nozzle into the main burner so as not to disturb the boiler setting.
Using the No. 17 wrench, unscrew the nut securing the copper tube from the burner to the valve. Using the key # 10, unscrew the ignition electrode from the pilot burner and the copper tube from the pilot burner and valve. Using a flat-head screwdriver, unscrew the two screws securing the pilot burner.
The gasket installed under the pilot burner has deteriorated. It will need to be replaced.
We remove the nozzle from the pilot burner.
Tip: If the nozzle is stuck, you can lightly tap the burner with a wrench.
Unscrew the four screws securing the main burner to the boiler body and the screw that secures the body in order to be able to remove the main burner.
Lowering the main burner down, remove the copper tube from the valve.
We remove the main burner.
We take out the thermometer sleeve from the boiler body.
Using the key No. 10, unscrew the four screws securing the upper boiler cover and remove it and the insulation sheet under it.
We unscrew the two nuts securing the flue to the boiler body.
We remove the terminals from the draft sensor.
We remove the gas duct.
We remove the swirlers from the boiler heat exchanger. We clean them with a brush. If necessary, use a metal brush.
We clean the outside of the heat exchanger with a metal brush. We clean the channels of the heat exchanger with a brush to the full depth. We clean the bottom of the heat exchanger with a brush. We also clean the gap between the boiler body and the floor. We clean the exfoliated debris with a vacuum cleaner.
Release the screw fixing the depth of entry of the nozzle into the main burner with the key No. 13 and remove it.
We clean the burner with a brush and a brush, clean its holes with a vacuum cleaner. We clean the flue from dust outside and inside.
We clean the outer surface of the nozzle with a brush, then clean the nozzle holes with a needle or wire.
Note: the needle must be of a smaller diameter than the diameter of the nozzle orifice. Even a slight increase in the diameter of the nozzle orifice can affect the combustion mode.
We install the main burner in place.
We install the copper pipe with the nozzle and screw its nut onto the gas valve.
Only after that we fix the nozzle on the burner at the mark with the key No. 13.
Note:
this sequence is necessary in order not to strip the threads in the valve body.
Finally, we clamp the nut of the copper tube with a wrench No. 17.
We clean the pilot burner with a metal brush.
This is how the thermocouple must be installed in the pilot burner (tip of the thermocouple against the flame tongue).
Install the pilot burner on a new gasket.
Before installing the nozzle in the pilot burner, it must be rubbed a little against the tip of the copper tube for a better seal. The nozzle should also be cleaned or blown out.
Connect the copper tube to the pilot burner and to the valve with a # 10 wrench.
The rest of the boiler parts are assembled in the reverse order. When connecting, the ignition electrode should not be clamped with a key; it is enough to do it by hand, since it is made of ceramic and can easily crack.
We carry out control soaping of all compounds. It is possible to check the tightness of the connection of copper pipes to the main and pilot burners only when the boiler is turned on.
Closed turbocharged equipment malfunctions
Sometimes, when installing a new smokeless appliance, the flame periodically decays. In this case, you need to check the nodes and parts. The problem is identified by the following factors:
ignition of the igniter is accompanied by periodic attenuation - this indicates a failure of the thermocouple, which affects the actuation of the valve. It is produced in the form of a copper tube with a bimetallic piece at the end. When various metals come into contact, the voltage rises to 20-45 W. This problem keeps the gas valve open. The thermocouple must be replaced with a new one; it cannot be repaired;
- breakage or clogging of the draft sensor - the flat part is combined with the fuel valve. When the leading contacts close and the burner ignites, a fire occurs - this indicates the need to replace the sensor. Oxidized contact areas can be cleaned with sandpaper with fine abrasives;
- in the event of a malfunction of the circulation pump, it is necessary to carry out a complete diagnosis of the unit and its replacement;
- a yellow flame is due to a clogged jet. You can clean it if you have experience with gas appliances.
Most of the reasons can be eliminated with your own hands, however, this will require some knowledge and a lot of time.
Rules for filling the system with water before turning on the gas boiler
Before igniting the gas boiler and turning on the heating system, first it is filled with cold coolant, which, after heating, will circulate through pipes and radiators. During the first launch, everything is carefully checked so that the work in the future is uninterrupted, and the equipment does not require repair.
These pressure parameters can be changed, since they depend on the manufacturer's requirements for the operating pressure in the heating system. But the filling with cold water does not finally end there, since recharge will be required after the structure has been freed from air jams.
Leakage in systems with automatic make-up
This reason applies to powerful industrial boilers or private systems with automatic make-up. Automatic make-up is a kind of safety device that takes effect when the pressure in the system drops. In the event of a water leak (for example, when a pipe breaks underground), the automatic system begins to constantly add more and more water. With an intense leak, the volumes of water will be significantly increased, and the boiler will not be able to reach the desired temperature. At the same time, due to the constant flow of cold water into the boiler, the device will not turn off.
Removing air pockets before igniting the gas boiler
Before igniting the gas boiler, you need to fill the heating structure with cold liquid heat carrier. But filling with water alone is not enough. It will either not work, or the degree of heating of the room will be insufficient. A full-fledged first start is impossible without bleeding the air accumulated in the system. Often, modern gas boilers have a special system that automatically releases air when filled. But often its effectiveness is insufficient: you will still need to manually reset air jams. Only then can the launch be carried out.
It is necessary to remove air plugs before turning on the gas boiler not only from the heating unit, circulation pump, but also from all heating radiators.The process should start with batteries - for this, as mentioned above, they are equipped with Mayevsky cranes. They are opened by substituting a container from below. There will be a slight whistle at first, indicating that air is gradually escaping from the system. Heating circuit problems
The pump must be matched to the requirements of the heating circuit.
Malfunctions in the operating mode of the heating circuit are not always associated with a malfunction of the main heating element. If the boiler works, but does not heat the batteries, the reason must be sought in the wiring itself.
A list of the main malfunctions of the heating circuit:
- the filter on the return line or the needle valve (Mayevsky's valve) is clogged;
- insufficient power of the circulation pump;
- the rules for installing the natural circulation heating circuit have not been followed.
Any of the above problems should be resolved before the start of the heating season. Otherwise, the room may remain without heat for several days, since the repair provides for a complete drain of the coolant.
So, why does the boiler not heat up the batteries, if during the previous years everything worked normally? The reason is a mud plug, which has formed on the heating circuit filter and completely blocks the coolant flow. It is solved simply - the water is drained from the pipes or, with the help of bypasses, its circulation is shut off, the filter is cleaned. To prevent a repetition of such a situation, it is necessary to completely replace the coolant with parallel flushing of the entire circuit.

The second reason why the boiler works, and the batteries are cold, is the insufficient power of the circulation pump. The performance of the device is not enough to timely and efficiently pump the entire volume of the coolant. Or, in the house, the heating system has branches that are at a significant distance from the pump. As a result, the circulating pump overheats, the heating equipment operates with excessive consumption of the energy carrier, and the radiators remain cold. The solution is to replace the coolant pumping device with a more powerful one.
If the house has a two-pipe heating circuit with natural circulation of water, and during the heating season it is often noticed that the boiler is on and the batteries are cold, then the reason lies in the failure to comply with the slope of the line. According to regulatory documents, only a pipe slope of 10 mm for each running meter in a natural circulation heating system will ensure the normal movement of the coolant. As a result, the batteries warm up evenly throughout the house. If there is no slope, the coolant stagnates, which negatively affects the temperature of the radiators. Low line pressure
Typically, the reasons for low gas pressure are the following factors:
- Fuel meter problems. Suspicious sounds or noise may be emitted from the device. On a faulty device, the readings change in jerks or the arrow does not move at all. To fix the problem, contact a specialist.
- Safety sensors have triggered - if the system has noticed a fuel leak, then the unit is blocked. The leak also smells like gas. If such a problem occurs, you should turn off the gas boiler and call the gas service master.

Reverse thrust
