Micathermic heater Polaris - features, designs, reviews
Pay attention to the new items - micathermic heaters from the Polaris company. What are these devices? This name is inherited from the technology of manufacturing the heated panel - Mica-Thermic. The plate is covered with mica on top, under which there is a layer of oxides of various metals. But the result is a special heat release. Let's consider the principle of operation and design in more detail, the advantages and disadvantages of this heater, listen to the reviews of those who have already encountered "this miracle" ...
Micathermic heater design
Polaris micathermic heaters are based on one or more radiating plates. They are made of nickel and are coated with iron, tin and zinc oxides. And on top there is another layer - mica - a mountain mineral that contains almost half of the periodic table. Why such difficulties and how do they affect the price?
This whole cake heats up when an electric current passes through it, and the mica heats up to 200 degrees, and generates infrared radiation.
Those. in fact, we have an infrared heater with all its advantages and disadvantages, but in the Micathermic-Polaris heater it is not incandescent tubes that emit, but a flat plate of a special design.
This emitting element is enclosed in a casing on wheels, everything is quite light (3 kg - 4 kg) and movable. Cheaper models emit only in one direction, can be hung on the wall, but other varieties can heat in 2 directions.
80% of the energy goes in the infrared range through a side panel covered with a grill. 20% of the heat goes to the usual convection heating of the air from the heated plates, which flows from the device through the upper grill.
What does such a construction give, is it good or bad?
- The power is regulated in steps - 1.5 or 2.0 kW. Powered by AC 220V.
- The heater contains a continuously adjustable thermostat.
- There is protection against overturning, when tilted, the device turns off to prevent overheating of the floor.
Features of operation of micathermic heaters
Infrared heating differs in that it heats only dense objects that absorb radiation energy, from which the air is subsequently heated.
If you find yourself in a cold room near the appliance, you will immediately feel the heat emanating from it, and you will warm yourself despite the cold air. Even "fry" if you get close.
This is good when you need to warm up quickly in a cold room. This is the main advantage of infrared emitters. But there are also disadvantages.
- There is no complete feeling of comfort until the air warms up. And it remains cold for a long time (several hours) ...
- Objects near the device may overheat; it is not recommended to stay closer than 0.5 meters. At the same time, already at a distance of 2 - 4 meters, the energy dissipation is such that the objects heat up weakly. This selectivity, literally spot heating, is also not convenient.
The hand touched the protective grid - no big deal. But if you hold it for more than 3 seconds, you will get burned ...
Micathermic heaters price
Compared to other types of heaters, this (micathermic) price is higher - 70 - 90 USD. for Polaris models. The European competitor Delongy is even higher. The following are data on how many times this type of heater is more expensive than conventional models.
- Oil heaters and convectors - 1.5 times.
- Ceramic tubes and fan heaters - 4 - 5 times.
Are the costs justified, what users say?
De'Longhi heater is more expensive, but made in Europe ...
Watch a short video about the operation of the Polaris heater - it really begins to heat dense objects that are nearby after a minute of its operation - until the nickel plates are heated to the desired temperature.
Polaris heater reviews, pros and cons
If you carefully read the reviews about this type of heaters and specifically about Polaris, you can find out the following.
- Polaris is an Israeli electrical engineering company with manufacturing facilities in China. On average, it is positioned as a well-known manufacturer with budget and medium-quality goods. There are no reviews about obvious defects and technical imperfections.
With Polaris micathermic heaters, in addition to the usual disadvantages of infrared heating (one-sided strong heating), users note one more thing.
- The design feature of this type of heaters is that dust freely penetrates through the grate onto the heating elements. After switching on, it burns out for the first 15 minutes, creating a characteristic smell.
- In addition, dust accumulates inside the device and users begin to think about how to remove it actually painlessly for the device, and a solution has not yet been found ....
- Also noted cases when, when the new device is turned on for the first time, smoke comes out of the plates for some time - something superfluous was left at the factory ...
Let's compare the Polaris micathermic heater with other types of appliances
But with all this, a light, quickly movable device, the Polaris micathermic heater, with its two kilowatts of electrical power, can very quickly heat up the necessary part of the room, an object, and warm up a person who is in the radiation zone with direct radiation. And this is its direct advantage.
If we compare in terms of consumer qualities with a conventional convector, with long-term work to heat the room to comfortable conditions, then both will take a lot of time, usually at least 4 hours of work.
But convectors create air movement, raise the dust flow, but this is not the case with a micathermic heater - one zone will heat up quickly, and the far corners will be warmed up from the air after a long period of time.
For a 1.5 kW heater of any design and method of energy transmission, the optimal heated area cannot exceed 25 square meters, with good insulation, otherwise the device will not cope ...
Horror stories, advertisements and speculation
- Due to direct radiation, Polaris has 2 times higher efficiency (30% less, 45% more ...). As you know, the efficiency of any device that converts electricity into thermal energy is high - about 98%, regardless of its design ...
- Open plates burn oxygen, there is nothing to breathe. Maybe they burn a little, they burn dust, but the percentage of oxygen in the room will not decrease from this, do not rush to suffocate.
- The Polaris device does not dry out the air (it is very dry). The heaters do not dry the air at all. In winter, it is dry by itself, when the temperature in the room rises, this becomes noticeable, and at the same time the humidity begins to run hard into the street through the structures - any heating devices are to blame ...
Let's better watch an overview video about the Polaris micathermic heater and think about whether you need to spend an additional 33% of your money on it or just buy an oiler ...
Installation and connection to the water supply
You can connect the water heater yourself using the instruction manual.
Work order:
- Choose a location. The wall must support double the mass of the water boiler, therefore, the storage heater must not be attached to drywall partitions. It is recommended to leave a distance of 20-25 cm to the ceiling and walls, and at least 30 cm to other objects. The closer the heater is to the hot water draw-off points, the less heat loss and power consumption.
- Secure the boiler. Water heater Polaris 50 l - small wall model. To suspend vertical models, 2 brackets are used, to fix horizontal ones, 4 brackets are needed.
- Connect to water supply. Pipes, valves and fittings are installed according to the connection diagram given in the operating instructions. All threaded connections must be sealed and sealed.
- Connect to the mains. The parameters of the power outlet must be no less than the parameters of the heater in order to avoid damage to the electrical wiring. It is recommended to connect the boiler to the network through a grounded outlet, otherwise, in the event of a short circuit, the RCD will not work, which will lead to damage to the heater.
- Check. After the sealant has dried, fill the boiler and drain the liquid. Make sure that there is no leakage and that the electric heater is working correctly.

Characteristics of Polaris boilers
Polaris water heaters are distinguished by a high level of reliability, economy, as well as ease of installation and ease of use. The designs are developed taking into account the use of several power modes, which significantly accelerates the heating of water.
There are devices with electrical or mechanical control, which certainly affects their cost. An important factor is the presence of protection systems - from overheating, temperature and pressure rise, as well as corrosion, foreign organisms, etc.
Instructions for use
The operation of the water heater is simple: all users can easily master it by following the manual.
The order of switching on / off the boiler is as follows:
- Before switching on, the boiler is filled - open the valve of the water supply network and the valve for using hot water.
- The heating element is switched on to the mains only after filling the boiler. First, you should make sure that the voltage in the network corresponds to the characteristics of the device.
- Set up the heater using the control panel. The regulator sets the maximum temperature, the power mode sets the heating speed. When the set temperature is reached, the heating element will turn off and the indicator will turn off. The boiler is operating in keep warm mode. If the liquid becomes colder than the set value, the heater will turn on.
- To turn off the device, turn off the power and temperature regulators, close the cold water valve, and disconnect from the mains.
- If not used for a long time, the liquid is drained from the heater. Cut off the cold water supply to the boiler, open the hot tap on the mixer and the drain neck.
Detailed advice for users of the Polaris electric water heater can be obtained online on the Internet (Tyumen).
